CHURCHWIDE SUNDAY SCHOOL in JUNE

"LOVING PEOPLE"

9:00 a.m. at Milligan House during June

Central to our theme of Stepping Out of the Boat is the idea of Loving People. We continue our Churchwide Sunday School in June talking about loving people through hospitality, mercy, justice, and evangelism.

We want to encourage EVERYONE to join us for Sunday School in June. All ages are invited to learn, laugh, and grow together during this intergenerational Sunday School.                          Mark Tucker

Mark’s Sabbatical

Years ago the Session granted pastors at OOC a one-month sabbatical every four years. Associate Pastor, Mark Tucker, will be taking his first one from Tuesday, June 12 to Wednesday, July 11.

Staff “Away” Times in June

June 6 through 15:  Senior Pastor Ron Lutjens is on vacation, then will attend General Assembly (June 12-15 in Memphis, Tennessee).

June 9 through 23:  Music Director Greg Roig is away on vacation in Maine.

All OOC women are invited to a baby shower for Dawn Harris and Vicki Leung. Both are expecting their babies at the end of July. Dawn & Vicki are registered at TARGET. Dawn is also registered at www.cottonbabies.com. 

 

Is your budget tight this month? If you wish, you can contribute to a group gift for each expectant mother. Please give your contribution to Larisa, Lois or Sandra no later than Sunday, June 10 (that’s TODAY).

 

If you are able bring a plate of refreshments, it would be greatly appreciated.

Parlor Fellowship – Farewell — Art Show

Join us today after worship for our Parlor Fellowship hosted by Michelle & Gretta Kraft. We are honoring Joel & Cyndi Keen who are leaving to help plant a church in St. Charles County. This is their last Sunday with us.

OOC Summer Children's Program

for children ages 4 through entering 6th grade

July 31-Aug. 4 — 9:00 am-noon

Register now online at www.oldorchardchurch.org. We need LOTS of volunteers to make this program successful! Please contact Kelli McKie (636-230-5754) to help with teaching, snacks, crafts, decorations, and many other areas. Grass Cutting Volunteers Wanted

We are cutting Willie Lee’s lawn again this summer. Lawn mower at the home. Willie is disabled & lives in Webster. See sign-up sheet or Brian Curry to volunteer.

 

Nursery Leader Needed

The Toddler Nursery (walking through age 3) is in immediate need of a regular nursery leader who would serve once a month. This involves overall supervision of the children (with two other volunteers) and facilitation of the simple morning routine of play time, story, and snack. No outside preparation time involved. Overture

The next Overture (our newsletter) will come out next Sunday on Sunday, June 17, and the deadline is today! Please put articles in the Overture box (electronic versions are welcomed but not required) or send them to the church office at office@oldorchardchurch.org. We welcome your submissions of articles, art, short essays, poetry, etc. All submissions need to be signed.

Anniversary Dates to Note

·   Webster-Rock Hill Ministries’ 25th Anniversary Celebration, Sunday, August 26, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at 111 East Waymire Avenue, Webster Groves. See our delegate to Webster Rock Hill Ministries, Phil Patterson, if you have questions. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about this ministry and its work.

·   Our church’s 26th Anniversary will be celebrated on Sunday, September 30. Picnic will be after worship.

Children’s Ministries

Nursery is offered for infants & children through Kindergarten age. Our nurseries are in the church building’s basement!  Infants’ & Toddlers’ nursery:  Ages 0 - 35 months…Begins at 10:00 a.m.

Preschool nursery:  Ages 3 & 4…Begins at 10:00 a.m.

Ages 5 – K…Begins at 10:50 a.m.

Children ages 3 and 4 can be in the nursery at the beginning of worship. The older children (5 - K) remain with their parents until 10:50 a.m., at which time they will be dismissed to join the other preschoolers already in the nursery. 

Parents:  Please pick up your children from the nurseries immediately after worship. Thank you!

Children’s Worship. No Children’s Worship during the summer.

 

Bring Food Any Sunday

You are invited to bring non-perishable foods on any Sunday. Soups, box meals, canned foods, rice, pasta, tomato products, ramen noodles, cereal/muffin mix. Container is in the foyer. Food is given to a food pantry (often Grace & Peace’s). Grace & Peace most often runs out of rice and fruit.                            —OOC Mercy Ministry

 

OOC Prayer Requests

¨  Pray for our denomination’s General Assembly meeting this week (June 12-17) in Memphis, Tennessee. Ron is attending.

¨  Pray for Mark Tucker as he begins his month-long sabbatical this Tuesday, June 12.

¨  Give thanks for Dan Petty’s successful eye surgery. Pray for healing and recovery.

House Church Schedule

This summer’s House Church schedule is different due to visiting missionaries and Summer Children’s Program.

 

June House Church:  New Date! Wednesday, June 27, the last Wednesday. We will hear from Triona Winter about her extended mission trip to India. (This is a change of date from what was in last week’s Overture.)

 

July House Church:  Wednesday, July 18, the third Wednesday. Joel & Jessica Rinn, OOC members, will be with us sharing about their work in Italy.

 

August House Church:  Date to be announced. Summer Children’s Program is the first week in August so we will not meet that week. Watch announcements.
