Welcome to Old Orchard Church!

We welcome you to our worship. If you would like to find out more about Old Orchard & what we are about, please fill out one of our visitor forms. Also, we invite you to use our child care services for infants through children in kindergarten, located in the church building’s basement.

Classes for children and adults meet Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Adult classes are held at Milligan House:

·   New Members Class is led by Ron Lutjens.

·   Communicating With My Non-Christian Friends.

How do we bear witness in our time to the Bible’s teaching that truth is absolute and that Jesus Christ is the only way to God? Until May 20, the adult Sunday School class is focusing on apologetics, the art of defending the Christian faith. We’re using as a springboard a teaching video by R.C. Sproul called “Choosing My Religion:  Truth, Pigs, and the House of God.” All of us should be growing in our ability to engage non-Christian friends, classmates, and co-workers in thinking about truth. This class would be an excellent refresher course for some of you, and the others a good intro to learning how to share your faith.        —Ron Lutjens

The work day will include cleaning out basements, landscaping work, painting or cleaning—depending upon what the need is in June. We’ll know more details closer to the date.

The West County Community Group has decided to make this a group project We’ll need others to join them!

Biloxi Trip

We only got two people signed up to go to Biloxi May 3-7 so we decided to postpone it again. If after seeing and hearing Kelli’s Moment for Missions recently, you desire to go, but couldn’t May 3-7, please e-mail the church office (office@oldorchardchurch.org) and propose dates. We are surveying all those who had expressed interest and get a commitment of at least 4 people to go together on a set of dates that works for them. Then we will invite others in the congregation to join that group. We’d like to hear from everyone by the end of May.

Extreme Backpacking Trip Update

We will now be hiking the Trace Creek section of the Ozark Trail, a 24 mile "moderate" hike. This represents a change from our previous itinerary— we found out that most of the approach trails to Taum Sauk have been flooded out and are closed or bogged down with reconstruction. This also means we'll be hiking a mere 24 miles rather than the daunting 26 we had intended to hike.

The plan is to meet at Old Orchard as early as is possible on Friday afternoon (5/25) and then drive to the Hazel Creek Campground where we'll camp that night. We will hike halfway on Saturday. Then we will proceed the rest of the way Sunday, pausing for a worship service when we stop for lunch. We will camp at the southern trail head Sunday night and drive back to St. Louis Monday morning (5/28).

For those of you concerned about carrying a pack that whole distance, I think that we can work at keeping the packs light.

If anyone needs equipment or has extras, let’s share.

Please contact me (Currie Bishop: curranb79@gmail.com or 314.605.2133) for more info.

Fund Raiser for Harambee

Golfers, get your clubs ready and mark your calendars for the afternoon of Friday, June 15 , 2007. Harambee is hosting the 5th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament to help raise money to run this summer’s program which will reach out to 72 teenagers in the City of St. Louis. Join us for a delicious barbecue lunch and then 18 holes of play at Forest Park Golf Course. $125 for a single player, $500 for a foursome if registered by May 30. Contact Kathy Victor 314-726-2302 (Ext. 30)

Harambee is a outreach program that New City Fellowship helps to sponsor. Here’s a description from their website: Harambee has grown incredibly over the years, enabling us to not only mentor more youth than ever through the Summer Program (73 in 2005 and 86 in 2006) but also to continue to work with up to 20 of those teens throughout the school year in the School-to-Work Program. As our ability to train more young people has increased, the opportunity has become available in the last few years to work on the homes of elderly and disadvantaged neighborhood residents for free. In addition, these longtime community residents are able to build meaningful relationships with the youth who are rebuilding their homes.”
