“Praying with Children”
Rescheduled for February 17th!!
Parent/ Volunteer/ Teacher Session
Praying is something that is difficult for ALL of us,
regardless of age. Yet, prayer is SO vital to following Christ. How do we teach
children to pray? How can we incorporate prayer into our home, church, and
class in a way that engages their hearts? How can we model a life a prayer to
our children? To tackle these questions we are having a presentation and
discussion time by former OOC member Dorie Fink.
Everyone is
welcome to come. Parents are encouraged to come. Children’s
Ministry teachers and volunteers are required to come:

Food Any Sunday (non-perishable,

Officer Nominating Process
Who nominates: Any member of Old Orchard Church can nominate
a man thought to be qualified for either office according to the Word of God (deacons: Acts 6:1-6; I Timothy 3:8-13; elders: 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4). But four other members must concur in the
judgment.
When we nominate: During the months of January and February
Who gets nominated: Any man who
is a member of Old Orchard Church can be nominated to the office of deacon or
elder. While probably most of the men serving as elders at Old Orchard over the
years have believed that the PCA goes beyond Scripture in prohibiting women
from holding the office of deacon, the Session abides by our denomination’s
policy. At some point the PCA may be willing to take a fresh look at the
Scriptures and reconsider the question.
The nomination itself: The nomination must be in writing, must
include a statement as to why the nominator believes the person should be
considered for the office, and must be signed by a total of 5 members of
Old Orchard Church. TO NOMINATE SOMEONE
MEANS YOU BELIEVE HE MAY WELL HAVE THE GIFTS AND CALLING TO BE A DEACON OR AN
ELDER. IT MEANS YOU BELIEVE THE MAN
SHOULD EXPLORE THE OFFICE WITH THE SESSION BY ENTERING THE APPRENTICESHIP
PROGRAM.
Who to approach in a
nomination: The
member nominating should first approach the Session with a nomination,
not the person being nominated. The
Session will then take the nomination and approach the individual with it. This is not “going behind the person’s back,”
but rather, by allowing the elders to approach a man with the fact that at
least five members of the fellowship believe he may have the gifts and calling
for office, we heighten the need for him to honestly consider whether God is
calling him. If, after careful prayer
and discussion with the elders and others, the man believes God is not calling
him to enter the apprenticeship program, he can decline the nomination, or
postpone it, and that is the end of the matter.
Either the Session or the man nominated
will inform all signatories to the nomination as to whether he will or will not
enter the apprenticeship program.
Apprenticeship period: Those men nominated have the months of
February and March to think, pray, meet with other officers and with the
Session as they try to discern God’s leading as to whether to go into the
apprenticeship. The apprenticeship program may begin as soon as all the men
considering it have made up their minds. But it shall be under way no later
than April 1.
Time of elections: Officer elections shall normally be held in November, usually on the second Wednesday.
