Open House for Neighbors

Help Get Flyers out TODAY!

Next Sunday, November 19, 3-5 p.m. we are opening our church building’s doors and inviting neighbors to come and see our newly renovated building. We are asking for three kinds of help from the congregation:  (1) to bring food to serve our guests. Sign up on the sheets circulating. (2) to deliver invitation flyers to the neighbors. Invitation flyers are available for you to take and deliver. (3) We are also asking some of you to come to the Open House and mix with the neighbors from 3-5 p.m.

Many of our neighbors are curious about what we've done with our building, but we need your help in getting the word out to them about this open house, and in making it a nice time for them once they're there.  This is a great opportunity to reach out beyond our own walls!

Help at Advent and Christmas—

Opportunities to Serve!

We’re seeking a few volunteers for advent & Christmas…. Get your volunteer hats on!

Christmas Tree:  we need someone (or a couple) to get and set up a Christmas tree in the sanctuary for the children to decorate. The tree will need to be put up the week of December 11 by the 15th.

Christmas Party. We’d like to have a Christmas Party with a meal on the evening of Friday, December 15. We’re looking for a team of people to plan this. Paula Rice has volunteered to be a point person. Would you like to join her in this?

If you are interested in helping with either one of these opportunities, let Durinda Hood know or call the church office (314.962.3795 or e-mail office@oldorchardchurch.org). Thank you!

Grace & Peace Winter Shelter

The Grace & Peace Winter Shelter is delaying its opening its doors to serving homeless women in the City of St. Louis. It will likely open within the next couple weeks as staffing is completed. We hope Melody Burke, Team Leader, encouraged you in her presentation last week. Pray that their volunteer and financial needs be provided.

Consider volunteering in some way!  Evening Volunteer, Evening Meal Preparer, Serving a Holiday Meal, Cooking/Serving a Sunday Breakfast. Providing meals or breakfast would be a great service for a prayer group or a group of friends to do together. Brochures giving more information about volunteering are in the parlor.

Also, if you would like to volunteer, you can call them at 314.367.8959 or the OOC church office. If you are interested in providing an evening meal, please sign up or call Tirzah Rhodes at 314.726.5572.

Dawn Miller in Spain – New Address & Phone

Dawn Miller, member of Old Orchard and missionary to Madrid, Spain with Campus Crusade for Christ, wrote in her Dawn’s latest newsletter:

Our new apartment is great, both in location and in space. Unfortunately, this has also been a large stress over the past couple of months. We waited nearly a month for hot water and still are waiting on an internet connection (and thus use of my Vonage phone). This may seem unheard of, but in Spain normal life can sometimes take more time than we are used to.

Thanks to Vonage, you can now reach me by phone (as soon as we get internet) at a US number. You dial it just as you would if I lived in the US (and there is no extra charge):  636-352-2116. The only thing you need to remember is that I’m 7 hours ahead.

Additionally, my new address is:

Dawn Miller

C/San Bernardo 120, 3 Izq C

28015 Madrid

SPAIN

Editor’s Notes:  Dawn’s E-mail remains the same:

dawn.miller@uscm.org or cafeconsoja@yahoo.com

And Dawn now has a website:  http://cafeconsoja.ministryhome.org — You can see her latest newsletter (as well as past newsletters) photos, etc. there.

Bring Food Any Sunday

You are invited to make donations of non-perishable food, individual sizes. Container is in the foyer!

Suggested shopping list:  canned meat, boxed meals, large & small soups, tomato products, fruit, vegetables, beans, rice or pasta, and ramen noodles. Donations are given to the Food Pantry at Grace & Peace Fellowship. Each third Wednesday of the month the Food Pantry serves a meal to the Food Pantry guests. Volunteers are welcomed. If interested, call Deb Eisenbraun at 314.241.4202 or Grace & Peace at 314.367.8959.

OOC Prayer Requests

Pray for the Grace & Peace Winter Shelter as they prepare to get ready to open soon.

Pray for Greg Roig as he finishes his teaching time in the Ukraine. Pray for safety as he returns November 17.

Pray for recovery for Donna Knobbe from surgery. Pray for Dot Branson as she will have surgery for a herniated disc on November 22 (yes, the day before Thanksgiving).

Joel and Jessica Rinn – Verona, Italy. Praise that the phone and email are functioning. Pray that they all will adjust to their new home. On November 17 a church planting specialist (Alan Waldecker) is coming for four days to help Joel as he lays the foundation for a new work.
