OOC Tidbits — April 9, 2006

Welcome to Old Orchard Church!

We welcome you to our worship, and thank you for your patience while we renovate our old building. We invite you to use our child care services to infants through children in kindergarten. Please see nursery details on the back page. Also, visit our Sunday School, offered for all ages (9 a.m. on Sunday mornings). However, we will not have Sunday School next Sunday on Easter. If you would like to find out more about Old Orchard and what we are about, please fill out one of our visitor forms (currently available in the foyer).

Overture Deadline

Today is the deadline for the next Overture. (our newsletter). All submissions need to be signed. Jon Easterling is Editor for the week. Please place your articles in the Overture mail slot (in the foyer).

Good Friday Meals—April 14

We invite you to sign up to attend one of the Good Friday Meals. Folks here in our fellowship have graciously opened their homes to host these meals. Sign up on the list posted. One name per line please.

There are two types of meals to choose from. See below for their descriptions. Meals are to begin at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, April 14. There will be a children’s meal offered at 5:45 p.m. at the Milligan House. Children may be brought to their meal beginning 5:30 p.m. and picked up by 7:15 p.m.

Our worship begins at 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone. See below.

·Reciting Meal

During these meals we read the highlights of the story of our redemption in Christ. A Bible goes around the table, verses assigned for each person to read. As we hear of the movement back and forth throughout history—from Genesis onward—between God’s grace and our sin, a center candle is alternately lit and extinguished.

·Sharing Meal

During these meals we focus on certain passages of Scripture, or songs, or meditations on the suffering of the Lord and then there is some time for focused, individual sharing on how the work of Christ has affected our own lives personally.

Good Friday Worship

You are invited to a joint worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church (921 Edgar Road, Webster Groves) on Good Friday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. Cornerstone is hosting the worship, and our Senior Pastor, Ron Lutjens, will be preaching.

And parents, please sign up if you plan to use the nursery (age 4 & under) during the worship.

Outreach Bible Study Offered

Old Orchard is being stretched this year in many ways: building renovations, Brazil trip, church plant, ambitious budget. And we have been encouraging each other to make it more of a priority in our lives to reach out to those around us who need Jesus in their lives, and to be more intentional in making connections with them. Outreach will stretch us, but it is part of what we are about as a church.

So, we have begun to plan for a Bible study that will be specifically oriented toward those who are new to the faith or curious about it. It will last only 6 weeks and (probably) be planned for Wednesday nights. Here is what we are asking you to do:

1.  Pray about a person you might ask to join you in this 6 week Bible study on the life of Jesus in the gospel of Mark.

2.  Approach Pastor Mark about your interest in inviting this person(s).

3.  Be willing to invite the person to join us. Once we get an idea who will be involved we can plan the dates:  if there are enough interested people now, we would start it in time to be finished before summer. But we may have to wait until fall.

We are willing to provide childcare, if it is needed.

Talk with either one of us if you want to know more!  Let us trust God to bless our efforts in reaching out in his name to those we care about.
