Day of Prayer and Fasting
The
Session has set aside Wednesday, February 9, as a day of prayer and
fasting for Old Orchard Church. This will replace all prayer groups that
evening as well as the two February house church meetings. Begin now to ask the
Lord to convict us all of the deep need we have to seek his face in prayer as a
church family as we move forward with our renovation plans and our south city
church plant.
Here’s the schedule for the day:
7
a.m.— 8 a.m. Time of worship & prayer at the church. Come for
any part of this hour you can! You can sign up to have the elders pray with
you sometime between 7:30 and 8 a.m. (or 7:30 and 8 p.m. in the evening).
8
a.m.— 6:30 p.m. People will be praying on their own, as they have
time—at home, at work, etc. The church and Milligan House will be open through
the day for those who want to come and pray there.
6:30
p.m.— 8:00 p.m. Closing worship and extended prayer time at the
Milligan House. After singing together
we’ll break up into groups in Milligan House rooms and pray together by themes: for the church plant, for OOC people in
great need, for our missionaries, for our renovation plans, for the world. Also,
people can sign up to have the elders pray for them between 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.
8:00
p.m. —-8:30 p.m. Sandwiches and light
refreshments for those who want to stick around.
The elders want to encourage you to join us in this
day of prayer and fasting in one way or another. You can fast if you want
to: it’s a discipline that the Bible
encourages. At the same time, some have a physical constitution (like my own)
that makes fasting very difficult. You probably should not be fasting if it
will make you sick. Christians can pray earnestly to their Father in heaven
without fasting!
(continued on the back)
(Continued from the
front.)
If
you can’t make the early morning worship and prayer time, feel free to drop by
the church during the day to pick up a list of those people and needs you can be
holding up before the Lord through the day.
Hope you will join your heart and your prayers to ours on the 9th! —Ron Lutjens for the Session
For
the next couple of months we will be using the Sunday School hour to unpack the
sermons on King David, sharing practical insights with each other from the
extraordinary life of this very broken but God-loving man who is referred to in
Scripture as a man “after God’s own heart.”
Come
with questions, come with a desire to apply the truths of the Word of God to
your life—to your work, your relationships, your wrestlings with God.
Jay
Simmons and I will be class co-leaders, but Jay will lead through January 30. —Ron Lutjens
